He was the last one to come out of the dressing room again. Shibutani and Yokoyama seemed to be in a hurry earlier so he just took over their responsibility to clear up the dressing room. “Omae, it’s not fair to leave all our trash for the staff-san to clean up.” Yasuda bickered to the two other members, Nishikido and Okura that was only packing their things and was about to go.
“I have another meeting with NewS.” Nishikido replied quickly as he head for the door. NewS had always been his way to escape any other thing. As if his reason was supported, a phone call came in just before he stepped out of the room. “I’m on my way. Ossan is still bickering at me.” He said loudly, purposely for Yasuda to hear him. Yasuda just mumbled something that was in audible to him. “Okura is going to drive him mad for a while. I’m picking up the thing now.” He said quietly as quickly head for his car.
Okura sat lazily on the couch watching Yasuda keeping the costumes, cleaning up the tables, and tying up the trash plastics. “Yassan, can you send me back home?” Okura said suddenly looking up from his mobile phone to the older man. Yasuda stared at him for a moment then he sighed. “Please…” Okura said coyly.
“Why didn’t go with Maru-chan earlier?” Yasuda questioned.
Okura faked a pout. “Fine. I’ll just take a taxi home then.” He mumbled half-heartedly.
Yasuda sighed. There was no way he could let the young boy go home alone at that time of the night. Especially after a concert. “Okay, okay. Just don’t pull that face.” He said finally as he did the final check of the dressing room. “Tatsu, can you pick the phone up for me please.” Yasuda said as his phone rang. “It’s Baru.” He said.
Okura shoot up in his seat scrambling to Yasuda’s bag. “How’d you know?” He questioned as he picked up the phone. We’re just about to finish.” He said quietly to the man on the other side of the line. “Be there soon.” He whispered.
“What is it?” Yasuda questioned. “Tatsu, what did Baru say?” He questioned again. The younger boy just kept quiet. “Okura.” He called the boy with a louder voice. When there was still no reply, Yasuda went to where Okura was sitting. “Nande?” He said at the apparently troubled man.
“It was not Baru.” Okura said quietly as his cheery expression from before changed completely.
“Eh?” Yasuda said questioningly. “I have different ringtones for each of you. It was Baru’s ringtone.” He replied. Okura just nodded. “It was his phone that just called, wasn’t it?” Yasuda questioned. Okura just looked up at him with a teary eye and nodded. “Tatsu, what happened?” He questioned quickly.
Okura blinked back his tears as his body began to tremble. “There was an accident. Yokocho and Baru.” He said between his sob. “They called. Indentify. They are going to kill them.” He spoke without making any sense. When he could no longer hold it back his feelings, he just broke down. “Yassan. It cannot be. It can’t be.” He cried.
Dumb founded by what was happening Yasuda just took the younger boy in his embrace. His heart pounded against his chest. Yokoyama and Shibutani had been driving in the same car. Could it be as what he thought what it could be. “Now, now. It could just be a mistake. Calm down now.” He said calmly as he reached for his mobile phone. Quickly he dialed Murakami’s number but the line was out of reach. When he tried Maruyama’s number, the same reply came in. “Calm down.” He said hushing the crying little boy. “Who called Tatsu?” He questioned but Okura could not answer.
Yasuda just sighed as he redialed Shibutani’s number. After the second ring, there was an answer. The person on the other line just gave him direction to where they were. Yasuda could hear panting and squeals of pain in the background. It was no wonder Okura was crying. He was a baby like that. He rarely takes in fear.
“It’s going to be fine, Tatsu.” Yasuda said softly. “Come on.” He said as he coaxed the taller boy up and walk beside him. Okura was much taller than he was but he was strong enough to support the taller boy’s frame with his petite form.
His heart pounded hard in his chest. His eyes began to be clouded by tears but he had to be strong for the younger boy beside him. His own body was starting to tremble with the fear of unknown. The unknown fate of his best friends.
The drive was silent. Okura calmed down but the tension was building up in the atmosphere around them. He wanted so bad to call Nishikido at that point just to keep him alert, but he could not do so. He promised the boy not to bother him when he was with NewS. Not after a long month, he did not contact them at all in front of the Eitos.
The drive to the place was awful long and it felt like they were going in circles. With the dark road ahead of them and the silent of the night makes his fine hairs stood on their ends and awaken his goose bumps.
The direction they followed leads them to an abandoned warehouse in the middle of nowhere. There was not even a proper road leading to the place. Okura worried face turned into horror. “Why would they be here?” He questioned. “What have I done?” He mumbled to himself. Yasuda was a little shock as he looks at his friend. He seemed familiar with the place.
“Here?” Yasuda asked suspiciously. Okura gasps. “Where are we heading, Tatsu? Have you been here before?” He demanded. The younger boy looked overwhelmed with guilt. “Okura. What is this place?” Yasuda asked irritated. “Omae, what do you know and not telling me?” Yasuda said raising his voice. It was rare for him to raise his voice. He was always the softer-spoken one.
Okura sigh surreptitiously. “This was my family’s warehouse. You know how my apartment was broken into last week right?” He questioned. Yasuda just nodded.
“You said nothing was lost.” Yasuda responded.
Okura nodded. “Nothing that is worth anything. But the keys to this warehouse.” He spoke. “I was supposed to be with Yokocho tonight. I was supposed to go and drink with him but the plan changed.” His voice became thick with guilt.
The car light dawned upon a lone figure on the pitch-black road. “Turn off the lights. Follow the glowing arrows.” The weird voice instructed. Yasuda slowed his car down but did not kill of his lights. “If you want your friend to live, follow my instruction.” The voice said as he fires his gun to the side. At that instant, Yasuda heard Yokoyama’s painful screech.
Yasuda sighed as he finally killed off the lights. “That’s far enough.” Another voice said. But stubbornly Yasuda kept going. “I said stop.” The voice boomed. Trembling with fear of his friends’ life Yasuda obeyed. Keep your hands where we can see it all the time. Slowly get out of the car.” Annoyed, but caring for the life of his friends, Yasuda obeyed.
The two-hooded figure walked towards them. Harshly a figure throws him to the side of the car and patted him down. For some reason though he just could not take the kidnappers seriously. Something about their smell and their clothes are making them seem a little more than suspicious.
Swiftly Yasuda pushed the hooded figure that was patting him to the ground with all his might and pulled off the mask that was covering his face. “Uchi-kun?” He said loudly. “Uchi Hiroki.” He raised his voice. It was then one by one the vehicle lights were turned on.
“Omedeto otanjoubi, Yassan.” They chorused as Yokoyama and Subaru lit up the firework they had bought earlier. Yasuda’s pale face with worry became crimsoned with embarrassment. A chorus of NewS’ Happy Birthday was then sung. Uchi who was still pinned between Yasuda and the ground began to push him off himself.
“Omedeto to you too.” Yasuda said as he helped the younger boy up. “Oi, Tacchon. You really fooled me.” Yasuda spoke. “He cried like crazy.” He said trying to avert the attention away from himself. Yet his effort was useless.
Upon entering the abandoned warehouse, there was a huge feast ready for him exclusively. Yasuda smiled shyly and awkwardly. “Who came up with this?” Yasuda questioned as the original seven members of Kanjani8 crowd around him.
“Minna.” Okura answered.
“Omae, I really thought they were kidnapped. And the break in?” He questioned. Okura just smiled cheekily. “Uso.” Yasuda moaned with the cheerful smile never left his face. “Nani o kore.”
“Sho-chan always takes care of us. It’s our turn.” Nishikido spoke from behind. “Were you surprised?” he questioned.
“You guys are nuts. And you guys are getting pulled into this as well?” Yasuda said still red from the earlier embarrassment as he look around to see his other friends from the agency and outside. “Honma ni minna. Arigatou.” Yasuda said getting a little emotional.
That night what began as an uneventful night for him had morphed into a night that he would never forget. Tears that flow from then on came only from happiness. The word ‘arigatou’ never left his mouth for the whole night.
The last toast of the night went to Shibutani. Yasuda backed behind Okura and became more crimsoned than before. With the other members, he could at the least predict what they were going to say but with Shibutani, it could really be anything.
“Omedetou Chipa, ne.” He started. “Ah~~, Uchi-kun to.” He said suddenly. “Eto, Shota why are you hiding?” Shibutani said looking for the petite man. “Shota, Shota, Shota. Come here.” He said cheekily.
“Nande?” Yasuda said as Okura pushed him to the middle of the room.
“This man here, selflessly slaved himself in the dressing room and rushed here to saved myself and Yokocho. He might be annoying and spacing out most of the time, but he is the one person I can depend on at all time.” Shibutani spoke seriously. “Honma ni, Shota, arigatou for being born.” Shibutani ended.
