He did not even have time to think about it. He acted on instinct. He does not know why but he just had to protect the pretty man beside him. He was not good in fighting and he was never particularly strong either. “Go.” He shouted. “Run, take Tatsuya and run.” He said urgently to the taller man beside him.
He knew from the start that he had ruined his future getting involved with his best friends. Especially when he got to know that his crush is the heir to the one of the biggest Yakuza clan in Tokyo. His sharp tongue and short temper do not make it any easier for any of them.
Fights are his everyday routine. Coming home covered in cuts and bruises make him feel manlier each time. Slowly though something began to change in him. His sharp tongue had become less sharp every time he comes around. His heart began to flutter. Yet, he could not make it to tell him the contents of his heart. Every time words would come out of his mouth, it would just hurt him.
The first time he protected his princess was the time he took a blade in his side. Pretending it was just another fight. Pretending he was fine, with just one kidney left. Yet he still fought every now and then. Yet he still could not tell his princess the truth about his feelings.
Ueda was far enough when his knees gave up on him. Five men were on him. He could not feel pain anymore. He could taste the irony blood in his mouth. Seconds later he felt the cold barrel against his stomach and the hot metal piercing his skin. Slowly his vision dimmed. Slowly the light died before him. Slowly he felt his body being consumed by the beast from hell.
The last thing he heard was the screaming of his princess calling his name. “This one is for you.” He mumbled painfully. “It has always been for you.”
Nishikido could not remember how long has it been since he was beaten. Feeling a warm hand on his eyes shot open. He tried his hardest to struggle but he was hooked to machines. A tube in his mouth, fluidly connected to his arm and on his side. “Calm down.” He heard the familiar voice said to him softly as he tried to hold him down.
His mind could not think straight. The only thing he could think of was the yellowish liquid to be poison and he was held hostage by those that were whacking the life out of him in the warehouse. “Ryo. It’s me. It’s Tatsuya. Please calm down. You’re going to hurt yourself.” The voice spoke softly in his ears. It’s Tatsuya.” He said again. The name calmed him down. He looked to his side and saw his princess were beside him.
His princess had been beside him all those time. His eyes had been red and puffy from crying. There were circles under his eyes from lack of sleep he thought. “Why?” He questioned. “It was not supposed to be your fight. Why were you there?” Tatsuya demanded.
Because I love you. Nishikido thought silently. He could not speak. Because I’d risk my life and I’d die for you. His mind spoke again. His eyes burning with tears that threatened to crawl out. Quietly he turned his head avoiding Ueda’s eyes.
“Don’t you know how much I care? Don’t you see how much I love you?” Ueda demanded. “Why put your life at risk like that? Is it that invaluable to you?” He said as he shook Nishikido’s body. Pain shot all through it yet it was nothing compared to the pain that was searing in his heart.
The seconds became minutes and the minutes turned into hours. Days passed before he was told what actually happened that day. He did not care a bit about it. He could not care less if his life was taken from him that day. But looking at Ueda’s broken face, he felt something he never felt before. Compassion.
“If it makes you feel any better, I did what I did because I thought it was the right thing to do. It has nothing to do with either Jin or Tomohisa.” Nishikido said finally. After he woke from the coma, the only words he said was okay, sure, I can’t remember and I don’t care. Ueda looked at him quizzically. “That day at the warehouse, I didn’t even know they were there. I could only see you.” NIshikido voice strained to be heard over the noise of the dialysis machine.
“Why?” Ueda questioned. “Why risk your life? What do you get? Lifetime lying on your back?” He questioned.
Nishikido just sighed. Heat was slowly creeping on his face, making him blush. “Because I love you.” He whispered quietly.
“What?” Ueda said unsure of the reality of what he just heard.
“Because I love you and I can’t stand seeing you hurt. Not even when I know you are the heir of the most dangerous Yakuza. You are just too delicate to be one. You are my princess and I have sworn in my heart to protect you till my last breath.” Nishikido said loudly. Ueda’s mouth agape. “Because I love you since the first time I saw you.” He said a little more gently.
Ueda’s eyes started to mist. Liquid crystal began to pool around his eyes. “Itai.” Nishikido fought the pain as he sat up and reached his hand out to wipe the tears that were falling from Ueda’s eyes. “And because I never wanted to see you cry.”
“Baka.” Ueda said punching his arms playfully. “Ryo-chan baka.” Tears now streaming down his face. Nishikido squirmed a little in pain but he was glad he did feel it. At least he knew, he was not feeling it alone. Ueda held his hands he held it on his face. “I need you alive more than I need your protection.” He spoke finally.
Two figures then walked in the room Nishikido was in. A sad smile plastered on their face. A doctor trailed them from behind. “Akanishi-san is willing to donate one of his kidneys to you. It’s risky in your state, but it’s worth the shot.” The doctor said. Ueda’s happy face turned into a frown. Shaking his head at Nishikido.
“It’s going to be fine.” Nishikido said squeezing the warm hand in his. The doctor understood as he let the four men talk. “Would you rather see me stuck like this? Unable to do anything at all?” Nishikido questioned.
“There are risks. Your escapades did not help one bit, Ryo.” Yamashita spoke.
Nishikido squinted at him. “Shut up.” He snapped. “Your boyfriend is willing.” He shot back.
“He’s healthy, idiot. The risk of him not waking up is next to none. With the injury that you sustained, it could be too much for your body. Skinny idiot.” Yamashita spat. Akanishi who was standing beside him whispered softly in his ears calming him down a little.
Somehow his decision was final even before Akanishi agreed to give his kidney to him. He made up his mind long before his life started when Ueda confesses his love to him. He gave up on life a long time ago. Yet he was not sure what he did right. Why god was not willing to take his life just yet. Or perhaps what he did wrong.
Barely a week after his transplant Nishikido was already on his feet. Being the stubborn man he was, he insisted on going home. He was feeling fine. The doctor agreed on condition he was not to be left alone. So did he. Ueda moved in with him. Or more like he moved in with Ueda into his clean and nice mansion rather than his own filthy flat.
“Why can’t we stay at my house again?” Nishikido questioned as Ueda drove them back to his place. Ueda just sighed at the question. “It’s not as bad as you think it is.” Nishikido pouted.
A sly smile formed on Ueda’s face. “I’ve been to the mouse hole. Not to mention the gangsters that want to kill you knowing that you’re still alive.” Ueda retorted. “Just shut the yapping hole of yours and stop complaining.” Ueda voicing his annoyance.
Three days of bliss they shared together when Nishikido felt his time was running out. He felt something was wrong yet, he did not want to shake the joy out of his partner. He laid his head on Ueda’s chest as both of them were having a picnic in Ueda’s backyard under the full bloom blossom tree. “If it was fated, for me to let go of this life, would you look for me in the next?” Nishikido asked suddenly. Ueda just lets out a laugh at the question. “Seriously.”
“Why do you have to keep being an idiot, Ryo. I love you.” Ueda replied simply. “You’re the only reason that I’m even still alive right now.” He said stroking the younger one’s hair. “I’d die without you.” He said planting small kisses on the younger one’s head. “You’re warm, Ryo.” He said getting alarmed.
“It’s nothing.” Nishikido replied. “Then if my time comes first, you have to let me go. If you love me.” He countered.
“Can you stop being an idiot for a second, Ryo.” Ueda nudges him playfully. Nishikido winced in pain. “Ryo? Daijoubu?” He questioned. The younger man could only nod.
Pushing himself to stand up, Nishikido fell onto the wet grass. “Itai.” He croaked out. “Tatsuya, I love you, don’t give up on your life ever, na.” He said before darkness engulfed him again. The only place he belonged. Darkness.
I’m never leaving you, Ryo. I’m going with you. I can’t go through this life without you. Ueda’s heart spoke as he gulps down the vial he had been keeping before Nishikido entered his life. Of which he had no use of until that moment.
In the end, two enemies become lovers and soul mates forever, having each other’s blood on their hands.
